Program of the day
MORNING
Leaving Burgos
We leave the city of Burgos and follow a section of the Camino de Santiago (12km, 3h approx.) that will take us to the town of Tardajos, a small village of Roman origin, built on an ancient road. The town welcomes travellers with an elegant 18th century cruise ship, before the harsh and arid plateau.
From Tardajos we will travel to León by private transport (1h 50 minutes).
We will walk through a purely Castilian landscape, with large plains and cereal fields. Open-air landscapes and the charm of the medieval villages will bring back the charm of this millenary route.
MIDDAY
Arrival in León
We will enjoy an excellent seasonal meal at the renowned restaurant Marcela.
Situated in a privileged location, just a few metres from the Casa Botines Gaudí Museum, it has two areas, the informal tapas area on the ground floor and the well-kept restaurant on the upper floor. Market cuisine with high quality meat and fish accompanied by the best wines of this land.
AFTERNOON
City tour and free time
Walking tour of the Old Town to see its most emblematic places, such as the cathedral with its incredible Gothic stained glass windows, the Romanesque paintings of the Pantheon of the Kings and the Plaza Mayor, among many others.
The “Decreta” (or Decrees) of León of 1188 contain the reference to the oldest parliamentary system in Europe. They reflect a model of government and administration in which the plebs participated for the first time, making decisions together with the king, the church and the nobility, through elected representatives from towns and cities.
NIGHT
Rest
We will stay at the historic and imposing Parador de León.
Conceived in the 12th century as a convent and pilgrims’ hospital, San Marcos ended up being one of the main seats of the Order of Santiago, and one of the most representative buildings of the . Plateresque style in Spain
Today, San Marcos houses an art collection that combines tradition and modernity. Inside it houses an exceptional antique collection, among which the figures of Juan de Juni and the 16th century choir stalls stand out, together with an exhibition of contemporary art that includes works by Fernando Zóbel and Eduardo Chillida.
