Oia

❡ Oia, religious heritage in Baixo Miño. Undoubtedly, the monument for which Oia is best known is the Monastery of Santa María de Oya, a religious complex that has not ceased to evolve since the 12th century and has undergone various transformations up to the group of buildings that we can see today. Its relevance lies in the fact that it is one of the few abbeys that remain by the sea in Galicia, as those that existed at the time were moved inland, as they would thus be less exposed to the attacks of pirates and corsairs that ravaged the coasts of Galicia for centuries.

Program of the day

MORNING
Departure from Ponte de Lima
We have a busy day ahead of us today. So is important to have a good breakfast before embarking on today’s adventure. The first thing to do is to take our private vehicle and our guide to Caminha, where we will take a boat to cross the border into Spanish territory.
Caminha, located on the banks of the river Minho, is a border town that forms part of the Portuguese Coastal Route. The pilgrims once reaching this point, must cross the river by boat or ferry to reach the town of A Guarda, in Galicia. As the pilgrims that we are, we will take the boat that will change us from one country to another.

MIDDAY
Visit to a winery. Free time for lunch.
Once on dry land again, we will take a short 15-minute drive to the Terras Gauda winery where, in addition to visiting the winery facilities, we will take an Eno-van ride through the vineyard and taste three wines. Terras Gauda is consolidated, together with three other wineries, as one of the main winemaking groups on the national scene, with a presence in four of the main wine-growing areas of Spain.
After the visit to the winery, we will have free time in the town of A Guarda to have lunch in a restaurant of our choice. As we will already be in Galicia, our recommendation is that you don’t miss the opportunity to try the pulpo á feira, the empanada, the padrón peppers, the lacón con grelos, or the seafood, distinctive products of Galician gastronomy.

AFTERNOON
Transfer to the accommodation and spa access
After lunch, we will move to the Hotel Talaso Atlántico 4*, an emblematic hotel with a Thalassotherapy Centre, one of the first to have this type of facility in the Rías Baixas area. This hotel, totally turned towards the sea, will allow us to relax in a haven of unparalleled peace. With infinite views over the sea horizon, we will access the Thalassotherapy Centre for a spa session that will provide us with well-being and peace.
The benefits of seawater have been known and used since ancient times. Its current concept is the use (under medical prescription) of seawater and other marine elements for preventive or therapeutic purposes.

NIGHT
Dinner at the hotel and rest
After the thalassotherapy session, we will have dinner in the hotel’s beautiful restaurant, the Faro Restaurant which offers only the best fresh, top-quality products on the menu: the best fish from the fish market offers a varied menu and other dishes that also have a link with the sea, the same one you will see from the dining room windows.
After a delicious dinner, we will rest while contemplating the ocean. You will have a room with sea views where you can let yourself be lulled by the murmur of the waves. The rooms are spacious, sober, elegant and comfortable.
